Today I had the 6'1'' bebaarde blond deliver a Haruki Murakami to Jesus.

My most favorite author at the moment... and the title so apt.

Wel, soos Haruki is Viktor ook in self-imposed exile, maar terwyl Haruki in exile is omdat hy te gewild is, kruip Viktor weg omdat hy die verkeerde mense kwaad gemaak het ;-)

Ek sal nog een keer vir Prof DeVilliers probeer oortuig dis boeke en nie Semtex nie...

Murakami-san is a class act. Some people I've spoken to feels he regurgitates the same themes too often (sheep, being lost, wells etc.), but as my good friend Cerebus always says: "It's about ordinary people getting stuck in extraordinary events and how they struggle to cope with no preparation or tools."

My favourites are Dance Dance Dance, Kafka on the Shore, Norwegian Wood, Wind-up Bird Chronicles and I found Underground fascinating.

It's like the fantasy books you read in school and manages to give you a "hol kol op die maag" because of the sad longing it creates.

For some surreal writing by another Japanese author, try Kobo Abe's books. Amazon is probably the best bet.
