Titbits on love #1

  1. Adoration sucks. Usually this means that the adorer has some construct in his mind about you. This does most likely not have anything to do with who you are. You can only disappoint the adorer as they become uncomfortable with the cognitive dissonance caused by the real you.

  2. To find The One, you’ve go to know yourself pretty well.

  3. My boss recons that I would be less restless and a lot nicer if only I had a boyfriend.

En die waarneming begin...

Ek raak altyd ongemaklik met sulke raad. (En ek kry dit ook, soms). Is mens dan nie nice genoeg NOU nie?!? ;-)

Ummm, about your point that adoration sucks because the adorer has preconceived ideas about who you are and is bound to be disappointed when getting to know the real you... Well, you are assuming that you have privileged access to who you yourself are. One of the cool things of love is that you may learn something about yourself from someone who sees you differently - different from the way everyone else sees you and also different from how you see yourself...

Seen in this light adoration is paradoxically a safeguard against narcissism.

And don't knock cognitive dissonance - it is often the trigger for changing our ideas about the world (it often being easier to adjust our beliefs than to change our behavior - like your own rationalization of smoking)

Ek haat ook sulke raad. 'n Mens sal tien teen een nicer/rustiger wees as jou baas of kollegas nie sulke idiote was nie!
